Does anyone know what poem " Let us forget with generosity those who cannot love us" is from? Or if it is a direct quote from Neruda.

Almost positive it’s a direct quote, not certain but pretty sure. I googled it extensively.

"my eyes were blind,
and something started in my soul,
fever or forgotten wings,
and I made my own way,
deciphering
that fire
and I wrote the first faint line,
faint, without substance, pure
nonsense,
pure wisdom
of someone who knows nothing"

is there any chance you could give your opinion on what Neruda's poem 'nothing but death' is about and which of his collections it originates from?

Well the poem in itself mirrors the quiet sound of death. By this I mean the way death has an inexplicable way of creeping up on you no matter who you are. But also it seems as though Neruda tries to personify the action of death by bringing its grim life into words.

But death also goes through the world dressed as a broom,

lapping the floor, looking for dead bodies,
death is inside the broom”

An example of personification of the word death, pretty intricate and the poem goes on furthering the idea of death and what it does.I’m not entirely sure where it originates from but I’m sure if you google it extensively the answer must lie somewhere within the deep caverns of the internet.

"No book has been able
to wrap me in paper,
to fill me up
with typography,
with heavenly imprints
or was ever able
to bind my eyes,
I come out of books to people orchards
with the hoarse family of my song,"

Ever read the W.S. Merwin translations of Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair? Great stuff!

I don’t believe I have, I’ll look it up :)

Hello :) Neruda has been a twist in the fabric of my time since the first time I read his "Saddest Lines". I'm enamored of his love poems, definitely, how can you not? And I enjoy that you have so much of that on this tumblr, but how about some of his Odes? Those are lovely as well; my personal favorite is "Ode to a Violin in California" :)

Of course! Love the ‘ode to common things’ great stuff. Ode to the dog and ode to the artichoke are my favorite :) I’ll post some!

love your tumblr :), but a little comment... when you talk about "the saddest lines"... you're talking about, "the desperate song"...the final poem of his book 20 love poems & a desperate song... (MY FAVORITE BOOK EVER!), maybe it's a translation issue, I don't really know :S

Pretty sure it’s a translation issue lol, I’ve come across “The Saddest Lines” multiple times and its title has varied. Happens a lot with Neruda. And thanks a bunch :)
